How much backing fabric do I need?
Figure your fabric based on the quilt top measurements, with 6" added to the length and width. For example, if your quilt measures 74" x 92", the backing fabric must be at least 80" x 98".
How should I seam my backing fabric?
It is best to have seams going only in one direction. For example, if you have two seams, they should both go across the width of the quilt or along the length of the quilt.
Should I do anything special to my quilt top to prepare it for quilting?
Make sure the seams are well sewn and pressed and trim away all excess threads. Please, do not leave any pins in the quilt top or baste it onto the batting and backing.
Do I need to bring my own batting?
I stock a variety of batting to meet any of your quilting needs. I would be happy to talk about the look each batting will give your finished quilt and to help you decide what is best suited to give you the results you want. I can use a batting you provide, but reserve the right to decide it's suitability for machine quilting.
Can I buy your batting without using your quilting services?
Absolutely! If you are looking for a specific brand or type of batting, I would be happy to order it if I don't already have it in stock.
How do you know what quilting designs you will use?
Your quilt top will be quilted to your specifications. We will talk about who the quilt is for, how it will be used, and what quilting options will fit your budget. Many people think they don't know how they want their top quilted, but I've found that this discussion is the best way for me to finish your quilt so that it meets your taste and needs. I have a large variety of thread and am happy to change colors as needed to best complete your quilt.
Should I add my embellishments before or after it is quilted?
Please wait until after it is quilted. This will protect your embellishments from becoming damaged during the quilting process.
